Sucrose

Sucrose is widely used in plant tissue culture:

• Primary carbon source: Sucrose provides the energy required for cell division, organogenesis, and overall growth in vitro.
  • Supports osmotic balance: Helps maintain proper osmotic pressure in culture media, ensuring stable cell physiology.
  • Improves shoot and root development: Promotes healthy shoot elongation, root initiation, and embryo development.
  • Used in all basal media: A standard component of MS, B5, WPM, N6 and almost all commercial micropropagation media.
  • Enhances stress tolerance: Supports tissues during low-light conditions, helping maintain metabolic activity and vigor.
