CITRIC ACID 

Citric Acid is widely used in plant tissue culture:

• Anti-browning agent: Prevents oxidative browning in explants by chelating metals and reducing phenolic oxidation.
  • pH regulator: Frequently used to adjust and stabilize the pH of tissue culture media.
  • Chelating agent: Binds metal ions like Fe³⁺ and Cu²⁺, improving nutrient availability and reducing toxicity.
  • Supports antioxidant systems: Enhances antioxidant activity when used with ascorbic acid in pre-treatment solutions.
  • Used during surface sterilization: Commonly included in antioxidant dips for sensitive explants (banana, grape, fruit crops, woody plants).
